KLS Baltic Alliance Workshop

Last week, members of the SysBioLatvia group participated in the KLS Baltic Alliance Workshop: Metagenomics and Metabolic Modelling for Clinical Microbiome Research, held in Riga on 17-18 September. The workshop brought together researchers interested in applying cutting-edge computational approaches to better understand the role of the microbiome in human health and disease.

Through a combination of lectures and hands-on training, participants explored modern approaches for metagenomic data analysis, genome-scale metabolic model reconstruction, and microbial community simulations. The workshop highlighted how researchers can move beyond identifying which microorganisms are present in a sample to predicting their biological functions and metabolic interactions.

For the SysBioLatvia team, this training was particularly valuable as it aligns with our growing interest in approaches that have significant potential for applications in personalised medicine, cancer research, ageing, and other areas where understanding complex biological systems is essential.

We thank the organisers, the speakers Karlis Arturs Moors and Lena Best from Kiel Life Sciences KLS, and participants for two inspiring days of learning and scientific discussion. We look forward to building on the knowledge gained and the connections established during the workshop.
