Our team participated at the International Conference for Young Scientists on Biorefinery Technologies and Products with results from three projects.
The Waste2Surf project was represented by Karina Balina who gave her presentation on the LCA study on biosurfactants’ production, and Ieva Berzina presented the results from the Laboratory of Yeast Nutritional Physiology of how biosurfactants are synthesized from waste rapeseed oil.
Anna Stikane presented results from the Fer2Fer post-doc project on spent microbial biomass as an increasing industrial residue.
Elina Dace shared results from the DeSTInation project on types and amounts of food industry by-products and emerging biotechnology pathways for their valorisation.
This research and participation in the conference have been supported by the European Regional Development Fund within the project No. 1.1.1.1/19/A/047 “Sustainable Microbial Valorisation of Waste Lipids into Biosurfactants” (Waste2Surf), and the post-doctoral research projects «Decision Support Tool for an Integrated Food Waste Valorisation System (DeSTInation)» (project No.1.1.1.2/VIAA/3/19/528) and “Sustainable valorisation of fermentation waste by microbial metabolic modeling and extension of fermentation cascades (Fer2Fer)” (Project No. 1.1.1.2/VIAA/4/20/610).
