Visiting students at Riga Hansa secondary school

Our colleague Jelena Ziemele gave a lecture on "Sustainable development of energy systems" to 9th-grade students at Riga Hansa Secondary School. Jelena introduced students to the structure of energy systems and schemes of heat and electricity supply. Jelena presented the postdoc project START by explaining the modelling approach for future development scenarios of the district heating system. Students also had a workshop during which they solved a creative task about heat supply solutions for housing in the near and distant future and discussed energy efficiency solutions in multi-apartment buildings to improve energy efficiency and reduce heating bills.

Speaking of the visit Jelena said: “It was very interesting to discuss with the youth about solutions of future energy systems, as well as solve practical tasks. I hope that students will apply what they have learned in the lecture in their daily lives.”

The START project is funded under the European Regional Development Fund Specific Objective 1.1.1 “Improve research and innovation capacity and the ability of Latvian research institutions to attract external funding, by investing in human capital and infrastructure” 1.1.1.2. measure “Post-doctoral Research Aid”.
