The first strategic conference has been held at ETH Zurich in Basel, in January 2013, to find out the most important issues to be addressed in the development of Synthetic biology in Europe and USA. Many contacts were established hopefully leading to great scientific collaborations in the future. Latvia was represented by three persons (record so far): Uldis Kalnenieks, Uldis Berkis and Egils Stalidzans.
